COVID-19 in the United States

COVID-19 (COronaVIrus Disease 2019) is the name given to the disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome). According to the WHO, "coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as MERS and SARS". It was first identified in a human in mid-November 2019 in China, and the first case identified in the United States was in mid-January 2020. By March 3, the U.S. had its first 100 documented cases.
