Heat Index and Dewpoint Climatology for Miami, FL

· The data shown on this page are updated daily at midnight and are derived from the hourly METAR reports from Miami International Airport in Miami-Dade County, Florida (KMIA), provided by Iowa State University. These data span 1948-present and the station has been at the same location during this time: the southwest corner of the airport grounds (map).

· The reported air and dew point temperature values are used to calculate the relative humidity and in turn, the heat index.

· The averages are calculated using the 1991-2020 period, and the records span the 1948-present period. Careful quality control of the data has been done in close coordination with the NWS Miami WFO, but none of the values shown here represent official climate normals or records and errors could still exist.

· Daily heatmap of hours spent above 90°F heat index (and 105°F)

· Annual number of hours spent above 90/95/100°F heat index (and 105/108/110°F)

· Time series of annual average heat index, temperature, and dewpoint

· Average summertime diurnal cycle of HI, T, and Td from 2011-2020 & 1951-1960

This table shows the record number of consecutive days that the heat index was at or above a given threshold, as well as the date that the streak ended. For historical context, the second and third highest number of consecutive days is also provided. If there is a tie, the most recent date will be listed first, next most recent date will be listed second, etc.
